What is the 436th?

The 436th District Court was created by the legislature in 2009. I was appointed in September of 2009 as the first judge of that court. I took the bench on October 1, 2009. I was elected by the voters of Bexar County to be judge of the 436th District Court in November of 2010, in November of 2014 and again in November of 2018.

The 436th is a juvenile law court, handling juvenile offenders from the age of 10 through the age of 16.

The main docket in the court is called on Monday at 8:30 am. At that time, parties confer and either stipulate (plead) or reset their case for stipulation or trial. Additional dockets are called Tuesday through Friday at 8:30 am, as the case load dictates. Trials normally begin on Tuesday, with contested motions being heard on Monday, when possible. Detention hearings are held at 9:30 am Monday through Friday.

The court is located at 235 E. Mitchell. Our Associate Judge is William Cruz Shaw. Our court reporters are Candy Zavala and Jessica Butts.

The main number for our court coordinator, Jesse Alvarez, is 210-335-1194. Our fax number is 210-335-7685.
